A new website was developed to easily locate or determine how close is your location to the Valley Fault. Just type your address in the search tab and a list of related locations will appear. A marker and a line will appear showing the direction toward the fault line, together with a text box saying your location and the calculated distance from the fault.
You can try it here... Project Tremors.
A big thanks to this team of Filipino web developers : Dominic Tuazon, Louis Michael Concepcion,Emmanuel Soriano, Kyle Abughanem, and Mic Gutierrez.
Additional info regarding the fault :
The fault contains two major segments, known as West Valley Fault (WVF) and East Valley Fault (EVF).
The East Valley Fault running through Rizal, and the West Valley Fault, running through Bulacan, Rizal, Metro Manila, Cavite, and Laguna.
As explained by wikipedia:
West segment
"The west segment, known as the West Valley Fault (WVF) is one of the two major fault segments of the Valley Fault System which runs through the cities of Marikina, Pasig and Muntinlupa and moves in a dominantly dextral strike-slip motion. The West Fault is capable of producing large scale earthquakes on its active phases with a magnitude of 7 or higher."
East segment
The eastern segment, known as East Valley Fault (EVF) moves in an oblique dextral motion.
"In geology the terms sinistral and dextral refer to the horizontal component of movement of blocks on either side of a fault or the sense of movement within a shear zone. These are terms of relative direction, as the movement of the blocks are described relative to each other when viewed from above. Movement is sinistral (left-handed) if the block on the other side of the fault moves to the left, or if straddling the fault the left side moves toward the observer. Movement is dextral (right-handed) if the block on the other side of the fault moves to the right, or if straddling the fault the right side moves toward the observer."

Be ready for "The BIG ONE"
"We don't usually use the word ripe because the fact would indicate that the West Valley Fault can move in our lifetime simply because the last earthquake that happened from this fault, most likely the 1658 earthquake 357 years ago, and the interval of movement of the fault is roughly between 400-600 years. So that's very close," said Solidum. (As quoted from an article in gmanetwork.com)
Also, Philvolcs recently launched a Valley Fault System Atlas, a collection of detailed large-scale maps that illustrates the areas that are near an earthquake fault. According to Philvolcs, the 100-kilometer West Valley Fault transects 42 barangays in Quezon City, Marikina, Pasig, Makati, Taguig, Muntinlupa, and 30 barangays in Bulacan, Laguna and Cavite.
